Physical-security infrastructure
Enterprise CCTV, IP cameras, and video-security systems
CCTV design is not placing many cameras; it is securely producing, transporting, retaining, and authorizing usable images for defined risk scenarios.
Overview
Enterprise CCTV, IP cameras, and video-security systems
Define each camera’s purpose during the survey: monitoring, detection, observation, recognition, or identification changes lenses, field of view, and pixel density. Add night lighting, backlight, motion, and weather to tests.
Design video networks and storage with the image. Bit rate, codec, FPS, recording mode, and retention determine NVR ingress, switch uplinks, backbone, and usable disk capacity.
Solution scope
Camera and lens
Image design aligned with risk scene, target detail, field of view, distance, and light.
NVR and VMS
Channels, bandwidth, users, simultaneous viewing, and integrations.
Video storage
Capacity based on real bit rates, retention, RAID, archive, and growth.
Secure operations
Segmentation, strong identity, updates, logs, roles, and privacy processes.

Frequently asked questions
How many megapixels does CCTV need?
It depends on purpose and scene. Pixel density, lens, and field of view are more meaningful design indicators than sensor resolution alone.
How is 30-day camera retention calculated?
Use camera count, average and peak bit rate, codec, FPS, motion or continuous recording, disk protection, and usable capacity.
Should CCTV be exposed to the internet?
Avoid direct uncontrolled access. If remote access is needed, use VPN, strong identity, available MFA, updates, and restricted management.
Do privacy rules apply to camera systems?
Images of identifiable people can be personal data. Define legal basis, notices, purpose limitation, retention, access, and deletion with qualified legal support.
