Hyperconverged infrastructure

HCI in Türkiye: hyperconverged infrastructure and virtualization

HCI combines compute, memory, software-defined storage, virtualization, and management on standard nodes. Mingdata evaluates both capacity and migration risk for HCI projects in Türkiye and Istanbul.

Overview

HCI in Türkiye: hyperconverged infrastructure and virtualization

Hyperconverged infrastructure aims to reduce the operational complexity of separate server and storage tiers and scale by adding nodes. Yet workloads differ, so CPU, RAM, usable capacity, IOPS, latency, and network capacity need separate models.

Reliable sizing starts with inventory and time-series measurements. Use peaks, oversubscription policy, data-reduction assumptions, rebuild performance, and usable capacity after a node failure rather than averages alone.

HCI is not backup. Platform HA may sustain service through hardware failure, while deletion, ransomware, application failure, and site loss require independent backup and disaster recovery.

Solution scope

Compute and memory

Node planning using vCPU/RAM consumption, NUMA, reservations, and growth.

Software-defined storage

Usable capacity, protection policy, IOPS, latency, and rebuild behavior.

Virtualization and management

VM lifecycle, monitoring, role permissions, and operational standards.

Business continuity

Separating node failure, maintenance, backup, replication, and DR objectives.

Planning criteria

Sizing inputs for HCI projects in Türkiye

Technical content updated: 7 September 2026

  • 1VM inventory, vCPU, RAM, disk, operating systems, and critical applications
  • 2At least 30 days of CPU, memory, IOPS, latency, capacity, and network measurements
  • 3N+1 or higher failure tolerance and service level during maintenance
  • 4Backup windows, RPO/RTO, secondary site, and restore testing
  • 5Migration from VMware or another hypervisor, downtime, and rollback
  • 6Three-to-five-year growth, licensing, support, energy, rack, and TCO

Frequently asked questions

What is HCI?

HCI combines compute, memory, software-defined storage, virtualization, and central management in a cluster of standard nodes.

How does HCI differ from three-tier infrastructure?

Three-tier designs can operate servers, storage, and SAN networks separately. HCI converges them in a software-defined node architecture; suitability depends on workload.

Can Sangfor HCI be used in a VMware migration?

It can be evaluated for selected workloads. Validate VM compatibility, networks, backup, licensing, migration tools, downtime, and rollback.

How many HCI nodes are required?

A technical minimum is insufficient. Calculate workloads, node failure, maintenance, protection policy, and growth.

Does HCI provide backup?

It may provide HA and selected snapshot or replication functions, but does not replace independent, isolated, tested backups.
